INSTITUTE OF ENGLISH AND AMERICAN STUDIES

The English Studies programme at Eszterházy Károly University started almost 50 years ago, in 1970, when the Department of English Studies (called English Cabinet between 1970–1975, then Department of English Language and Literature until 2006) was established. It was joined by the American Studies Department in 1990, and these two departments were united in the Institute of English and American Studies on 1 January 2017. The Institute boasts a highly qualified teaching staff, involved in various national and international research programmes, and offers a wide range of courses on the history, culture and literature of English-speaking peoples, English linguistics, intercultural communication and translation as well as courses devoted to English language development and the methodology of English language teaching.

The Institute of English and American Studies operates four educational programmes: BA in English and American Studies, MEd in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, MA in American Studies and – in cooperation with other departments and institutes of the University – MA in Translation and Interpreting. Information relating to these courses can be found under the Programmes and For Students menus.
